Day 1
Monday, October 26, 2009
Hi all! Today was our first day at camp. Your must be wondering how we felt. Hmm... personally, I (Seowyen) think it is a disaster as our bus broke down along Seletar Expressway. But it became better as the day went on....

We did some team bonding before going to the camp site. We did some cheers which sounded absurd, but in the end it was quite an interesting experience! We got to know our trainers a little better, they were Trainer Amin and Trainer Nash. They are extremely hilarious and friendly.

Since we arrived at the camp site later than others, some of us did not get our space for our dormitory, and we were unhappy with the arrangement. Some girls had to share spaces with other classes but they didn't provide or leave enough space for some of us to sleep. Some guys didn't even get dormitories at all! It was ratified later and everyone got what they wanted.

We had lunch, it was edible. And definitely not the kind of food we get from our mothers every other day. I really missed and appreciate mum's cooking. Quite nutritious i should say, overall the meals are alright.

We were assigned to two groups, group 8 & 9. Group 9 had to climb over a low wall first. Some guys could individually climb over the wall themselves. However, the girls had to be pushed up by at least two helpers to be able to go over the wall. Initially, I felt that I couldn't climb the wall. When I realised that boys are going to help us, i felt even worse, I was worried that i would be too heavy for them to push me up. When I finally reached the top, I felt a sense of jubilation. I feel better knowing that I could trust my classmates and became more confident in taking up more obstacles. I learnt from this activity that no matter what, our friends will always help us out.

Next activity was Spider Web, we had to go through strings that was formed into spider webs. Our objective was to go through the webs without touching them. Group 8 went through individually while group 9 went through as a group. From this activity, I've learnt that it's important to work as a team to be able to overcome obstacles.

Next was Kayaking and we did a Water Confidence Test. After some instructions on how to kayak, we finally went out to sea! It was fun, and a few kayaks capsized but we still enjoyed it. Once we had to 'raftup' ie., hold our kayaks together and do the trust game. We have to stand up from our seats while at sea, holding hands with the person next to us. We have to trust our partner behind us to balance the boat, preventing a fall. Then we head back to shore. From that activity, I've learnt that trusting everyone around you is vital.

We did Rafting next. We had to make our own rafts. You can't imagine how fun it was! We were exhausted in building the raft but we were exhilarated and proud to see it float in the water. The water we had to float in was like MILO, very brown and murky water. You could barely see anything below.

We ate dinner after that then we took our bathe. It was a long queue just to shower. We went practice our cheers and started planning on our Campfire performance. There was a debrief then supper!

Suwai and I went to do the blogging while my friends went to sleep. Photos coming up. Enjoy :D
